Cultural Foundation, Abu Dhabi
Located in the heart of Abu Dhabi opposite Qasr Al Hosn, the Cultural Foundation is a major cultural centre dedicated to visual and performing arts, learning and community engagement. Originally opened in 1981 as the UAE’s first dedicated cultural centre, the building has become an important cultural and architectural landmark in Abu Dhabi.
Visitors can explore a changing programme of art exhibitions, performances, public talks, workshops and cultural events. The centre also offers guided tours that introduce visitors to its architecture, exhibitions and cultural spaces.
The Cultural Foundation is home to Al Marsam Al Hor, which offers art classes and workshops in disciplines including painting, sketching, mixed media, sculpture, ceramics, pottery, fashion design and jewellery. Bait Al Khatt provides Arabic calligraphy classes ranging from beginner to master level.
Families can also visit the Abu Dhabi Children’s Library, a three-floor, 5,250-square-metre space designed around immersive learning, reading and creative activities for children. The library includes dedicated reading areas, an art workshop, studio spaces and interactive environments inspired by the UAE’s landscapes and culture. The Cultural Foundation also presents a contemporary performing arts programme featuring music, dance and theatre, while its visual arts programme supports artists through exhibitions, workshops, public engagement initiatives and an artist residency programme.
