Sharjah Art Foundation, Sharjah
Sharjah Art Foundation is a leading contemporary arts institution in the UAE, dedicated to supporting and presenting contemporary art in Sharjah and the wider region. Established in 2009, the Foundation operates across Sharjah’s historic Arts and Heritage Areas as well as other locations throughout the emirate, using both purpose-built and repurposed historic spaces for exhibitions and cultural programmes.
The Foundation presents a year-round programme of exhibitions, performances, film screenings, artist talks, workshops and educational activities. Its major initiatives include the Sharjah Biennial, the annual March Meeting, artist residencies, production grants, commissions, research, publications and its growing contemporary art collection.
Beyond exhibitions, Sharjah Art Foundation offers learning opportunities for children, families, young people and adults, including workshops, courses, talks, photowalks and professional development programmes. Its programmes also extend beyond Sharjah City through art centres in areas including Al Dhaid, Al Madam, Khorfakkan, Kalba and Al Hamriyah.
The Foundation also hosts a variety of recurring cultural events, including Perform Sharjah, Sharjah Film Platform and Focal Point, while its Photography Gallery presents exhibitions and displays from the Sharjah Art Foundation Collection. Many of its exhibitions and public programmes are free and open to visitors.
