XVA Gallery, Dubai

XVA Gallery is a leading contemporary art gallery in Dubai, founded in 2003 by Mona Hauser and one of the pioneering forces behind the city’s contemporary art scene. It focuses heavily on young and mid-career artists and specializes in modern and contemporary art from Iran and the wider Arab world, though it also features international artists. Over the years the gallery has hosted solo and group exhibitions by names such as Hassan Sharif, Navid Nuur, and Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian, maintaining a steady, rotating exhibition schedule throughout the year.

The gallery is housed in a beautifully restored, traditional wind-tower building in the historic Al Fahidi Neighbourhood (formerly Bastakiya) — one of Dubai’s oldest and most atmospheric districts, with narrow lanes and coral-stone architecture dating back over a century. Alongside its galleries, the same courtyard complex is home to the XVA Art Hotel, a small boutique hotel with individually designed rooms, and XVA Café, a vegetarian courtyard café that has become a quiet favourite among visitors looking to escape the heat and the bustle of the surrounding old town.

Beyond exhibitions, XVA runs a programme of artist talks, seminars, and guided tours, and also offers art consultancy and curatorial services. A small bookshop on site stocks a curated selection of titles on contemporary Middle Eastern art. Combining a serious contemporary art programme with a tranquil, historic setting, XVA Gallery remains a must-visit stop for art lovers exploring Old Dubai.
