Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization, Sharjah
Located in the historic Al Majarrah area along Sharjah Creek, the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization explores the history, culture, science and artistic achievements of the Islamic world. The museum is housed in a restored historic building and features more than 5,000 artefacts representing different periods and regions of Islamic civilization.
The museum’s permanent displays are arranged across seven galleries. These include exhibitions dedicated to the foundations of the Islamic faith, Islamic science and technology, Islamic art, coins, manuscripts, ceramics, metalwork, textiles and other historic objects. Among the collection are rare Qur’anic manuscripts, Islamic coins, scientific instruments and examples of traditional Islamic craftsmanship.
In addition to its permanent collection, the museum hosts temporary exhibitions that explore different aspects of Islamic art and cultural heritage. Its location in the historic heart of Sharjah also makes it a useful cultural stop when exploring the surrounding heritage district and traditional waterfront areas.
