Umm Al Quwain Heritage District
The Umm Al Quwain Heritage District is a historic area in the old part of Umm Al Quwain that brings together several of the emirate’s important cultural and heritage landmarks. The district preserves the traditional character of the old town and provides visitors with an opportunity to explore the history of Umm Al Quwain through its historic buildings, defensive structures and waterfront setting.
Among the area’s key landmarks are the historic Umm Al Quwain Fort, now home to the Umm Al Quwain National Museum, as well as the remains of the historic Umm Al Quwain Wall and nearby traditional towers and archaeological sites. The fort was built in 1768 and served as the seat of government and residence of the ruling family before being converted into a museum in 2000.
The surrounding old town provides a broader heritage experience beyond the museum itself. Visitors can explore the traditional urban environment and connect several historic sites in the same area, making the district a useful starting point for discovering Umm Al Quwain’s history and cultural identity. As the district is an active historic area rather than a single ticketed attraction, opening hours vary between individual sites.
