Al Mahatta Museum, Sharjah

Al Mahatta Museum is a historic aviation museum located at the site of Sharjah’s first airport. Established in 1932, Al Mahatta was the first airport in the United Arab Emirates and an important stop on the air route connecting Europe with India and other parts of the region. The original airport complex included a terminal building, control tower, aircraft hangars, maintenance facilities and other aviation infrastructure.

The museum was established in 2000 and preserves the history of aviation in Sharjah and the UAE through original aircraft, historical photographs, aircraft components, engines and aviation technology. Its five main exhibition halls explore the development of commercial aviation in the region and the role Al Mahatta played in connecting Sharjah with the wider world.

Visitors can also explore the original airport architecture, including the historic terminal building and surrounding aviation facilities. The museum’s collection includes fully restored propeller aircraft and other objects connected to the history of Sharjah Airport, offering a distinctive look at the development of air travel in the UAE during the 20th century.
