Al Mudharsa Tower, Sharjah

Located at the north-eastern entrance of Al Dhaid Oasis in Sharjah’s Central Region, Al Mudharsa Tower is a restored historic watchtower that once formed part of the traditional defensive system protecting the oasis, its agricultural lands, water sources, and crops. The tower reflects the traditional architecture of the region, with thick cylindrical clay walls built on a stone foundation.

The tower features a raised entrance, narrow internal staircase, observation openings, firing ports, and defensive battlements. Its restoration, completed in February 2026, preserved these original architectural elements while surrounding the site with landscaped green spaces and illuminated walking paths, creating a cultural landmark where visitors can learn about Al Dhaid’s oasis agriculture, traditional defence, and local heritage.

In December 2023, Al Dhaid Fort and Falaj Al Dhaid, including Al Mudharsa Tower, were inscribed on the ICESCO World Heritage List. The tower is also part of a growing heritage circuit in Al Dhaid alongside Al Dhaid Fort, Falaj Al Dhaid, and Souq Sharia’t Al Dhaid.
