Jumeirah Mosque, Dubai
Jumeirah Mosque is the best-known mosque in Dubai, made prominent by its huge central dome and twin minarets, built in the traditional medieval Fatimid architectural style. Located on Jumeirah Beach Road, it is a fully functioning place of worship capable of holding over 1,200 worshippers — and one of the very few mosques in the UAE that opens its doors to non-Muslim visitors.
Guided visits are organised by the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Centre for Cultural Understanding (SMCCU) as part of its “Open Doors, Open Minds” programme, which invites visitors to ask any question about Islam and Emirati culture, no matter how sensitive. The guided visit runs twice daily — at 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM — Saturday to Thursday, with registration opening 30 minutes before each session and no advance booking required. The experience includes light Emirati refreshments, a demonstration of wudu (the ritual washing before prayer), time in the main prayer hall, and additional cultural activities such as the “Once Upon a Time” museum, the “Mosque of the World” gallery, henna for ladies, and a photo opportunity with a falcon.
Modest dress is required; headscarves, abayas, and kanduras are available on-site for those who need them.
