Guggenheim Abu Dhabi

Note: Guggenheim Abu Dhabi is scheduled to open on 11 December 2026 and is not yet open to the public. Check the official website for the latest opening information, exhibitions and visitor details.

Located in the Saadiyat Cultural District, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will be a major museum dedicated to modern and contemporary art. Developed through a partnership between the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, the museum will present a global perspective on modern and contemporary art, with a particular focus on West Asia, North Africa and South Asia.

The museum’s growing collection includes works dating from around 1960 onwards and spans a wide range of media, generations and geographical regions. Its exhibitions will explore connections between different cultures, artistic practices and histories rather than following a strictly chronological approach.

Designed by the late Pritzker Prize-winning architect Frank Gehry, the building features 30 galleries connected by a central atrium and surrounded by ten large sculptural cones. These distinctive structures, reaching up to 88 metres in height, are designed to provide shade and natural ventilation while forming the museum’s architectural identity.

The museum will also serve as a centre for artistic research, education and cultural exchange, with programmes spanning exhibitions, artist commissions, research, publications and public engagement.
