Hisn Khorfakkan, Sharjah

Hisn Khorfakkan is a heritage museum located in Khorfakkan on Sharjah’s East Coast. The museum was rebuilt to reflect the architectural character of the original fort and opened to the public in 2019. Its design and exhibitions introduce visitors to the long history of Khorfakkan and the surrounding East Coast region.

The museum houses archaeological collections covering periods from the Bronze Age and Iron Age through the pre-Islamic and Islamic eras to more recent history. Exhibits include archaeological artefacts, manuscripts, jewellery, inscriptions, pottery, personal belongings, historical photographs and models. Interactive digital displays and visual presentations help visitors understand the development of Khorfakkan and the wider East Coast.

The museum also offers educational and recreational programmes suitable for different age groups, including hands-on activities for children and families. Its location in Khorfakkan makes it a useful cultural stop alongside other East Coast attractions such as Khorfakkan Beach, the Khorfakkan Amphitheatre and Waterfall and the historic Al Adwani Tower.
