Rain Room Sharjah
Rain Room Sharjah is an immersive contemporary art installation by the international art collective Random International, permanently located in Al Majarrah, Sharjah. The installation allows visitors to walk through a continuous downpour without getting wet, using motion-tracking technology to detect visitors and temporarily stop the rain directly above them.
The installation uses approximately 2,500 litres of self-cleaning recycled water and a network of 3D tracking cameras to respond to visitors’ movements. As people move through the darkened space, the rainfall continuously adapts to their position, creating an interactive experience that explores the relationship between humans, technology and nature.
Opened in Sharjah in May 2018, Rain Room was the first permanent installation of the project and its Middle East premiere. The installation is part of the Sharjah Art Foundation Collection and has become one of the emirate’s distinctive contemporary art experiences. Each viewing lasts approximately 15 minutes, with a maximum of seven visitors allowed inside at a time. Advance booking is recommended, particularly on weekends and public holidays.
