Wadi Wurayah National Park, Fujairah

Note: Wadi Wurayah reopened to the public in January 2026 after a period of closure, but access remains controlled: visits must be booked as an organised tour through Fujairah Holidays and are limited to the hiking season (early October to spring), with tours run on Saturdays and group sizes capped to protect the environment. Independent, unbooked entry is not permitted.

Wadi Wurayah National Park, in the Hajar Mountains near Masafi, is one of the UAE’s most significant conservation areas and, in 2026, was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Declared a protected area in 2009, the park’s more than 60 natural springs feed a water channel running over 6 kilometres before draining into a waterfall roughly 13 metres high — a rare, permanent freshwater feature in the Arabian Peninsula.

The reserve is also a Ramsar-listed wetland of international importance and shelters a wide range of wildlife, including the extremely rare Arabian leopard, alongside numerous archaeological sites within its wider 22,000-hectare area. Its pools, waterfalls and dramatic mountain scenery have made it one of Fujairah’s best-known natural attractions.

Because of the site’s ecological sensitivity, all visits are conducted as guided group tours through the Fujairah Environment Authority’s operational partner, Fujairah Holidays, rather than as independent hikes.
